First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov chaired a board meeting of the Charitable Fund for the Restoration of the New Jerusalem Resurrection Monastery

The meeting participants approved the November-December 2008 report by the Fund’s executive director. The Fund was registered and began operation in accordance with established procedure.

The Fund opened accounts with Bank VTB and Rosselkhozbank for charity fund-raising. The state agencies concerned are involved in streamlining land and property relations to out the Art and History museum New Jerusalem from  the monastery's territory.

The board members considered the financing scheme for the restoration works proposed by the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Finance. Mr Zubkov issued instructions to draft and submit to the Government the relevant normative acts.

The priority and emergency restoration works planned for December 2008 and the first quarter of 2009 will be financed with the charitable funds. The required investment is roughly estimated at about 350 million roubles.

The meeting participants also discussed the development of a concept for the monastery's restoration and adjustment for modern use. The Concept will duly incorporate religious and historic approaches as well as the opinion of an expert council set up by the Fund's board and a special working group to study and analyze archive materials on the monastery. The vast archive demands an extensive study by prominent art historians.

The Concept is to be completed in the third quarter of 2009.

In conclusion, the board members approved the Fund's logo and the principles of the Fund's interaction with companies and agencies involved in restoration, and coordinated a plan for December 2008 and the first quarter of 2009.

Priority tasks for the planning period include building the Fund's website and developing a plan for its educational activity.
