Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Government Executive Office Sergei Sobyanin visits Singapore

Participants:

During the visit, Sergei Sobyanin was updated about Singapore's experience in the sphere of information technology, in particular the e-Government system. At the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the Russian deputy prime minister was especially interested in the e-Government's one-stop all-inclusive portal for business and the one-stop cross-agencies electronic submission and approval system for the construction industry.

Sobyanin said Russia would draw on Singapore's experience when introducing its own e-Government system. "The more closely we address the issue, the more interesting it becomes to learn about the experiences of countries that have already advanced along this path," the deputy prime minister said.

He also met with Singaporean Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan. He said that Russia planned to double allocations to healthcare within the next few years. "We are interested in Singapore's experience in reforming healthcare; we would like to consider their experiences when reforming the national health system, and take into account the problems Singapore encountered and the mistakes made during the reform," Sobyanin said.

At the conclusion of his visit to Singapore, the Russian deputy prime minister met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Following their meeting, Sobyanin said that the work of the Russian-Singaporean high-level inter-governmental commission would improve bilateral trade and economic relations.

The agreement to set up the commission was reached the day before. The commission is co-chaired by Sergei Sobyanin and Senior Minister of Singapore Goh Chok Tong.
