Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov chairs a meeting of the government’s Military Industrial Commission

The commission members discussed a draft 2011-2020 federal targeted programme for the defence industry.

They discussed in detail policies proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade as part of the programme aimed at boosting the Russian defence industry's technological level and productivity so as to meet objectives to design and produce the required volumes of priority weapons, military equipment and other hardware, which are crucial for state-of-the-art armament of the Russian Armed Forces and for defence industry growth.

The commission generally supported the proposed approach toward drafting the 2011-2020 defence industry programme and its proposed format. It also instructed the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the other federal executive bodies concerned to finalise the draft programme while incorporating the decisions made at this meeting.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade, along with the other federal executive bodies concerned, also proposed candidates for the position of designer general for weapon and military equipment projects. The commission approved the nominations.
