Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov pushes prohibitive fines for using motor vehicles for illegal transport

Participants:

Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov pushed prohibitive fines for using motor vehicles for illegal transport at an extended meeting of the Ministry of Transport Board. He also said international-level penalties for violating traffic-safety regulations are essential. Mr Ivanov said the planned 40,000 rouble fines for illegal freight-and-passenger traffic should be increased.

The Deputy Prime Minister also demanded that the Ministry of Transport draft a passenger transport safety programme more quickly. He noted that the ministry should closely cooperate with other state authorities, including the Federal Security Service, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief, the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development, specialised federal transport agencies and transport companies.
Sergei Ivanov also noted the low driver training standards and the need for upgraded requirements for professional drivers.
