Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko

Participants:

Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:

Vladimir Putin: Mr President, while you were having dinner with President Dmitry Medvedev, I managed to ...

Alexander Lukashenko: You call that dinner!

Vladimir Putin: ...get some exercise.

Alexander Lukashenko: Dinner?! I came here hungry, and thought I would at least get a piece of bread ...

Vladimir Putin: I took a dip in the pool and spent some time in the gym.

Alexander Lukashenko: I also had a swim before my meeting with President Medvedev. But don't try to talk your way out of this. You owe me a meal!

Vladimir Putin: Okay.

Alexander Lukashenko: Or do you not eat this late?

Vladimir Putin: I eat whenever I want.

Alexander Lukashenko: I'm just joking.

Vladimir Putin: Mr President, we are glad to see you, especially on the eve of our national holiday. Thank you for accepting our invitation. We will, of course, have an opportunity to discuss business, too.

Alexander Lukashenko: I'm sure we will.

Vladimir Putin: Neighbours and close partners like our two countries always have many ...

Alexander Lukashenko: The Russian president and I just discussed a number of issues. I told him I was going to see you and tell you all about our heated discussion. I said you're an old hand, so it wouldn't take us long to discuss what was left of the agenda. It is really great to visit you again at home, and I often think about the paths we drove along in your electric cart. So I am really grateful to you for the invitation. We will discuss the matters at hand, and since we haven't seen each other for a long time, I'm sure we'll have plenty to talk about.
