Dmitry Medvedev sends his condolences on the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
His message sent to the Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, reads:
On behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation and me personally, I send my deep condolences on the death of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Comandante Hugo Chavez, an outstanding politician and statesman and a great friend of Russia.
The whole life of Hugo Chavez exemplifies selfless service to the Venezuelan people and the struggle for justice and equality. We share the anguish over your loss and we will always remember this remarkable man, patriot and citizen.
It is difficult to overestimate the personal contribution of Hugo Chavez to the strengthening of the Russian-Venezuelan partnership. In large part, his energy and purposefulness have promoted large joint projects in energy, industry, high technology, transport infrastructure, agriculture and other areas. I am confident that the further building of bilateral cooperation meets the vital interests of Russia and Venezuela.
I ask you, Mr Vice President, to pass my sympathy and support to the family and friends of Hugo Chavez.
