The message reads, in part:

"For more than twenty years this forum has united representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, government bodies, researchers, and teachers from Russia's regions and from other countries.

"The theme of the readings this year is the role of traditional values in a modern world. Society's moral values and the upbringing of a new generation are very important today. This is why it is important to learn the unique traditions that Russian education is famous for, and share the best experiences of teaching for the spiritual enlightenment of children and youth.

"I hope that the recommendations of the Christmas Readings will help teachers and will contribute to the development of Russian education, and to resolving the challenges of the spiritual revival of our education system."
