The addresses of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Moldovan Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii at Russian-Moldovan extended attendance talks

"We have already resolved certain problems we considered baffling just recently. I mean farm produce and wine supplies. We have discussed what else should be done in an eye-to-eye talk just now. We are prepared to consider additional measures, and we thank you for the attention you pay to bilateral contacts."

Zinaida Greceanii: Mr Putin, colleagues and friends,

I am happy to greet our Russian friends at the Government of the Republic of Moldova and express my gratitude for this visit.

We have had a busy day. I think the Council of the CIS Heads of Government made constructive decisions at the meeting today, as I have said to my colleagues.

Today we are going to discuss many issues at the bilateral level, and continue our contacts, which can be highly constructive and productive. The documents we are going to sign tonight will promote both Moldovan interests and, I hope, Russian as well.

We will create conditions for the development of business to interest Russian investors in the Moldovan market. My colleagues and have been working extremely hard toward that goal. Our teams have been cooperating constructively.

I want to thank our co-chairmen, Andrei Fursenko for Russia and Igor Dodon for Moldova, for the huge job they did at the 10th jubilee meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission. Mr Fursenko and I started an endeavour we regarded as our goal: to get everyone to sit down at the negotiating table and work together. I think this job is going quite successfully in our countries' interests.

Thank you.

Vladimir Putin: I would like to thank you for your invitation on my colleagues' behalf and on my own, and congratulate you once again on the successful meeting of CIS Prime Ministers. It was exceptionally very well organised in a businesslike and constructive way.

As for bilateral relations, we are satisfied with their development. Bilateral trade will grow by 20-30% before the end of the year. It increased by 15-20% to approach $1.5 billion last year. Now, we will hit the $2 billion mark despite the global economic problems, which is a notable increase.

Indicatively, not only Russian exports to Moldova are growing but also the other way round.

We have already resolved certain problems we considered baffling just recently. I mean farm produce and wine supplies. We have discussed what else should be done in an eye-to-eye talk just now. We are prepared to consider additional measures, and we thank you for the attention you pay to bilateral contacts.

Thank you.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Moldovan Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii summarised the talks by signing a Russian-Moldovan economic partnership programme for 2009-2020.

Russian-Moldovan agreements on cooperation in information technologies and a protocol on partnership between the Russian Culture Ministry and the Moldovan Culture and Tourism Ministry were also signed.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin laid a wreath on the tomb of King Stephen the Great during his official visit to Moldova, as a military brass band played both countries' anthems.

The medieval Moldovan state reached the peak of its military, political and cultural might during the reign of Stephen the Great, from 1457 to 1504.

The inception of Russian-Moldovan contacts is also connected with his name.
