Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev speaks with his Belarusian counterpart Mikhail Myasnikovich

The Russian prime minister said he will do everything for “our Union State to develop and prosper.”

Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:

Mikhail Myasnikovich: We are glad to welcome you again, Mr Medvedev. I think the agenda of the Council of Ministers of the Union State and bilateral relations have already been discussed to some extent at the meeting with our president. Still there are some details and nuances that we must discuss.

We are glad that we have formed a solid contractual foundation and that trade is growing. I think we will also have investment and innovation projects. We have prepared a number of proposals to develop the agreements reached in St Petersburg on June 15. I think we’ll discuss them and adopt relevant decisions. Welcome!

Dmitry Medvedev: Thank you very much, Mr Myasnikovich. We have indeed started negotiations (and they were not only of a general political character, they were quite specific) during the discussion with President Alexander Lukashenko.

The government always has its own agenda. We’ll discuss some economic problems of our bilateral relations. And, of course, the session of the Council of Ministers of the Union State is a major element of our common programme today. Its agenda is fully prepared and consists of many items. I hope their resolution will benefit our two nations.

Mikhail Myasnikovich: I’d like to congratulate you on your appointment to the position of chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Union State.

Dmitry Medvedev: Yes, thank you very much. This is a special responsibility for me and I will do everything for our Union State to develop and prosper. Thank you once again for the invitation to visit Belarus.
