1972: graduated from the Moscow Machine Tool and Tooling Institute.

1975: began holding top posts in the State Committee for Foreign Economic Ties and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations of the U.S.S.R.

1981: graduated from the All-Union Academy of Foreign Trade.

1991-1992: Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to GATT.

1992: Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade of the Russian Federation.

1993: First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade .

1997: Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade.  

1998-1999: Board Chairman and General Director of Ingosstrakh IJSC (Insurance Joint Stock Company).

May 1999: appointed Minister of Trade of the Russian Federation.

May 2000: First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

March 2001: Director of the Federal Service of Tax Police of the Russian Federation.

May 2003: Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Communities in Brussels, Belgium, as ranking Minister of the Russian Federation.

2004-2007: Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

October 9, 2007: appointed director of the Foreign Intelligence Service by a presidential decree.

Mr Fradkov has a PhD in Economics.

Fluent in English and Spanish.  

Married, with two sons.
