Born in August 1953

Education

1975: Graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute with honours and then embarked on a postgraduate degree in this same institute.

1980: Awarded a Candidate of Sciences degree; 2003: Awarded a Doctor of Sciences degree.

Experience

Until 1991 he worked at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. He rose from an engineer at the institute’s Department of Research to an assistant professor at the Department of Dynamics and Strength of Machines.

1991: Headed Entek company, developing and promoting the use of technical solutions for the modernization of thermal and mechanical equipment and thermal power stations.

1998 – 2003: General Director of Innovation Agency, a non-commercial partnership engaged in creating conditions and offering services for the commercialisation of research organisations and innovative firms’  intellectual activity results.

1998: Awarded the Russian Federation Government Prize for promoting the use of new equipment.

Before his appointment as the Head of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks in 2003, Simonov headed the Department of Innovative Development at the Russian Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies.

Holds the Order of the Badge of Honour

Married, with two sons
