Born on May 11, 1961 in Nizhny Lomov, Penza Region.

1989: Graduated from the Higher Political School of the Interior Ministry with a degree in Jurisprudence.

Experience

1982: Worked for the Interior Ministry’s department for protecting foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow.

1984: Appointed platoon commander of a separate battalion in the Patrol Guard Service of the Interior Ministry’s Directorate for the Gagarinsky District Executive Committee of Moscow.

1989–1992: Officer of the criminal investigation department of the Interior Ministry’s Directorate for the Kuntsevsky District Executive Committee of Moscow; Deputy Head of the 20^th Militia Station of Moscow; Head of the 8^th Militia Station of Moscow.

1992–1997: Senior officer in the 2^nd section of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate for Moscow; Head of the 108^th Militia Station of Moscow; Chief Investigative Officer of the 2^nd District Criminal Investigation Department of Moscow’s Central Administrative Area.

1997–2001: Head of the 4^th district section of the Interior Ministry’s Moscow Department of Organised Crime; Head of the District Investigative Bureau of the Central District Department of Organised Crime at the Interior Ministry’s Main Department of Organised Crime for the Southeastern Administrative Area of Moscow.

2001–2007: Head of the 3^rd District Investigative Bureau of the Interior Ministry’s Main Department for the Central Federal District; Deputy Head of the Investigative Bureau of the of the Interior Ministry’s Main Department for the Central Federal District.

2007–2009: Head of the Interior Ministry Directorate for the Orel Region

From April to September 2009: First Deputy Head of the Interior Ministry’s Criminal Investigation Department.

September 7, 2009: Appointed Head of the Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate for Moscow by Presidential Executive Order.

June 10, 2010: Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General (police) and on March 24, 2011, to the rank of Lieutenant General (police) by Presidential Executive Order.

May 21, 2012: Appointed Minister of the Interior of the Russian Federation by Presidential Executive Order.

Married, with a son and a daughter.
