First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov held a meeting of the subcommission on technical regulation and countering violations of intellectual property rights of the government commission on economic development and integration.
Discussions focused on the protection of intellectual property on the Internet in the Russian Federation.
Mr Shuvalov tasked the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media and the Ministry of Culture, along with other relevant agencies, to provide the government with draft amendments to individual articles of Russian legislation regulating Internet use. The draft legislation proposes to identify entities providing Internet services and to determine their liability for violations of copyrights and allied rights.
The Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, the Ministry of Culture and the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation are also tasked with drafting proposals on organising a conference of international experts to discuss these issues. Mr Shuvalov emphasised that such discussion could take place in the context of cooperation among CIS member states.
