Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signs an executive order (No. 38-r of January 26, 2010) to hold an international forum in Vladivostok on September 9-12 on a world-wide effort to protect tigers.

Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources has been instructed to establish an organizing committee on preparing an international forum on a world-wide effort to protect tigers and to organise forum's format.

The purpose of the forum is to develop coordinated measures to protect the global population of tigers, which continues to decline.

Comprehensive measures have been taken to protect Russia's population of between 400 and 500 Amur tigers, including a programme initiated by Prime Minister Putin in 2008 to study and preserve this rare species. There are also plans to update the strategy for protecting the Amur tiger in the near future.
