First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov chaired a routine meeting of the Commission for the Prevention of the Introduction and Spread of Diseases Caused by the Highly Pathogenic Flu Virus in Russia

 
 
 

Opening the Commission meeting, the First Deputy Prime Minister said: "Judging from the statistics presented, this flu disease has passed its peak, including in countries which are known to have been unfortunate with this epidemic. Isolated cases of infection are being recorded."

Evaluating the performance of the relevant services in relation to the two cases of H1N1 flu in Russia, Mr Zubkov stressed that "the situation in the country is constantly being monitored, and all necessary preventative measures are being taken." The First Deputy Prime Minister added: "No special measures are needed. People are not in any danger, thanks to the prompt and effective actions by the supervisory services and health professionals. Regional headquarters worked efficiently." 

Mr Zubkov paid particular attention to keeping the population informed about the developing situation and the measures taken by the authorities. The First Deputy Prime Minister stressed: "It is vital that Russians continue to receive measured and objective information in real time."

The Commission meeting considered the current situation in the country, and in the world at large, regarding the H1N1 flu virus, analysed the actions taken in the two domestic cases of infection, and discussed the ongoing development of a vaccine.

Members of the Commission also examined reports presented by the heads of the St Petersburg, Leningrad and Kaliningrad regions on the implementation of measures for the prevention of the introduction and spread of diseases caused by the H1N1 flu virus.
