“One of the most acute social problems in this country is a great amount of shabby and dilapidated housing. Wherever I come and meet with people, they ask me how the Government is tackling this problem today and how it plans to resolve it.”

Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:

Vladimir Putin: One of the most acute social problems in this country is a great amount of shabby and dilapidated housing. Wherever I come, wherever I meet with people, they ask me how the Government is tackling this problem today and how it plans to resolve it.

I have just met with heads of primary trade union organisations. One of the speakers also raised this issue. Your fund has been set up to tackle this problem, too. What is being done under your programmes and what is the total amount of dilapidated housing today?

Konstantin Tsitsin: You are quite right. The dilapidated housing stock is big enough, 11.8 million sq m, as of today. In keeping with the Fund's programme, 66.2 billion roubles was transferred to the regions as part of co-financing of resettlement programmes. The money is provided by both the Fund and the regions.

In keeping with your instructions, we launched the programme of allocating 50 billion roubles to the regions last year as top-priority. The programme is working smoothly, and 32,000 apartments will be bought under it to move 87,000 people to new housing. This covers about 4,400 dilapidated buildings, with their total number included in the programme coming close to 7,700. The funds available today will allow 140,000 people to move to new apartments as early as this year.

Vladimir Putin: Fine.
