On December 27, Dmitry Medvedev will take part in the award ceremony for the 2012 Government prizes in education

 
 
 

The winners include authors of research papers and developments in mathematical education of students in engineering and agricultural radioecology; training of personnel for the defence industry and medicine; health improvements and streamlining of the academic burden of students; development of students' mathematic talents and effective training methods in the field of distributed computing networks.

The ceremony will be attended by Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov, rectors of universities, heads of general education schools and representatives of the scientific and educational community.

The Government has awarded annual prizes in education since 1996. At present it has instituted 20 annual prizes worth one million roubles each.

Prizes are awarded for the following achievements:

а) Conducting research and practice studies, the results of which have appeared in scientific publications and monographs and are having a strong influence on the educational system in the Russian Federation;

b) Writing high-quality text books for the educational system of the Russian Federation;

c) Impressive results of professional teaching activities that are reflected in the following ways:

Consistently high academic achievements by students, including the training of winners and prize winners of the final stage of national academic competitions for school pupils, members of the national teams of the Russian Federation that took part in international Olympiads on general educational subjects, as well as winners and prize winners of school-level Olympiads;

Development and introduction of original works as well as teaching methods and forms that improve the teaching process and have been widely distributed;

d) Introducing innovative technology in education, including the elaboration of effective teaching methods, organisation of the educational process and the assessment of the content and quality of education in schools.

In 2012 the Government of the Russian Federation awarded prizes in education to 155 people, including 15 academicians and 12 associate members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Education, the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences; and 39 masters of science.
