Dmitry Medvedev meets with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff

Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:

Dmitry Medvedev: Madam President, I’m happy to meet with you again. I recall our meetings at BRICS summits and other important forums. Now you are on a big trip to the Russian Federation. I hope it will be useful. We will speak today, and tomorrow you will hold talks with the Russian President. I’m glad you will have an opportunity to see a bit of Russia. I think this will be very useful for our relations.

In general, relations between Russia and Brazil are very good – we have increased our trade substantially in the last few years and our companies have interesting projects and plans. But this does not mean that everything has been resolved and we have nothing to discuss or no projects that can be a catalyst for our relations in the near future. In this regard, the Russian Government is at your disposal. We are ready to discuss any issues.

Again, we are very glad to see you in the Russian Federation.

Dilma Rouseff (via interpreter): I’m also very grateful to you for your warm reception, Mr Prime Minister. I’m very pleased to be at this meeting with you because this is my first visit to Russia as the President of Brazil. I think the agreements we will sign tomorrow will further deepen our partnership.

We have closely cooperated in the G20 and BRICS and also the IMF. I think our cooperation will help strengthen our relations in these organisations. The Russian presidency of the G20 will greatly enhance our cooperation both in the G20 and in the BRICS format.

I appreciate the role you play as co-chair of the high-level commission, and if you come to Brazil, I’d be happy to receive you not only as the Russian Prime Minister but also in this other capacity.
