Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visits the Federal Centre for Cardiovascular Surgery in Kaliningrad

 
 
 

During his working visit to Kaliningrad, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev toured the centre and its paediatric cardiac surgery unit and talked with young patients and their parents. The Prime Minister was shown the surgery unit and surgeons operating on a beating heart on a computer.

The centre was built as part of the Health national project and opened in August 2012. The centre is outfitted with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and comprises an advisory clinic for children and adults, two cardiac surgery units for adult patients (50 beds), a paediatric cardiac surgery unit with 17 beds, a unit for surgical treatment of complex arrhythmias and electric cardiac stimulation for 50 beds, intervention radiology units, anaesthesiology and resuscitation units, a surgery unit and a clinical-diagnostic unit.

Currently, the centre employs 84 doctors, 60% of whom are at the top of their field.
