Opening the meeting, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that last year Russian fishers caught almost 4.3 million tonnes of aquatic bioresources, which is the best result in the past decade. They plan to increase it to 4.5 million tonnes per year to 2020.
Mr Medvedev said one of the priority tasks for managers of the fishing industry is to curb illegal fishing and exporting of aquatic bioresources and the products made from them. Participants in the meeting paid special attention to upgrading the regulatory framework.
