Alexander Zhukov held a meeting in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on improving public health in the Far Eastern Federal District.
Mr Zhukov said that, beginning in 2011, the national project Health would include new measures aimed at increasing the birth rate in Russia. Specifically, these include training medical personnel in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, establishing training centres, enhancing the effectiveness of infertility treatment and introducing a series of measures for nursing newborns with low birth weights. Medical examinations of 14-year-olds and additional medical examinations of the working population will also start in 2011. These measures will be enacted in all of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, Mr Zhukov said.
