First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov asked Minister of Agriculture Elena Skrynnik to establish and lead a commission to assist agricultural producers affected by drought in 2010, and to hold the first meeting of the commission and present proposals to the Russian government by July 8.

In this context, Mr Zubkov emphasised the need to carry out a detailed analysis of the information provided by the regions, including information on crop failure, the extent of damage, current grain stocks and the amount of subsidies received by agricultural producers for crop insurance and the purchase of agricultural equipment.

The first deputy prime minister also requested an analysis of government aid provided to agricultural producers after the 2009 drought and instructed Ministry of Agriculture officials to develop new aid measures based on their economic feasibility.

"These measures should provide targeted and effective aid, with contributions from the regional budgets," said the first deputy prime minister.
