During his visit to the Tambov Region, Mr Putin toured the complex of churches in the village of Tulinovka. The senior priest of the church thanked the prime minister for his assistance and presented him with the icon of Saint Pitirim, the patron saint of the Tambov Region, and Mr Putin, in turn, presented the village church with the icon of the Saviour. The senior priest assured that the gift would be kept in the church.
While visiting the village, Mr Putin also spoke with children and their parents on the grounds of the complex of churches. The prime minister was approached by local farmer Viktor Perelygin, who said he had difficulties in obtaining money to complete farm construction. "I have to make repairs using my own money," Perelygin lamented. The farmer asked Mr Putin to help him get a 10-year loan of 50 million roubles, offering his house or car as collateral. Mr Putin instructed Dmitry Patrushev, head of Rosselkhozbank, to consider the possibility of granting the loan to the farmer.
