Prime Minister Vladimir Putin evaluates the progress made on national agriculture projects during a working visit to the Tambov Region

While in the village of Streltsy in the Tambov Region, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was shown agricultural machinery and equipment manufactured by AgroTekhMash-T, the first major agricultural engineering company to be established in Russia in the past decade. Its creation was made possible by support from the state agro-industrial leasing company Rosagroleasing. AgroTekhMash-T manufactures wheeled agricultural tractors with engine capacities between 180 hp and 280 hp. These tractors cost 15% to 20% less than similar models manufactured abroad. In addition to tractors and mounted equipment, the company manufactures machines used in road construction, forestry and the utilities sector.

The prime minister inspected the interior of a tractor of the seventh drawbar category, recently developed by AgroTekhMash-T. The tractor is currently undergoing tests before it goes into mass production next year.

Prime Minister Putin presented the region's two best farmers with vouchers for new tractors. One of the farmers mentioned to the prime minister that the region has been hit by an unprecedented drought this summer. The prime minister replied that assistance to the regions affected by the drought will be discussed in detail at meetings in Tambov and in Moscow.

After that Prime Minister Putin toured the Tambov-Moloko dairy plant, managed by Milk Holding. He sampled some of their products, which he rated highly. "Thanks for the milk," he said. "It's very good." Milk Holding owner Igor Babayev asked the prime minister to consider subsidising the programmes to increase Russia's cattle stock and to support Russian breeding centres.
