First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov inspected several facilities under construction and observed that work was proceeding at a good pace. "The results are obvious. The university building on Russky Island has shot up right before our eyes," he said. According to the first deputy prime minister, this work should be viewed as an effort to improve the living standards for all those who live in the Primorye Territory.
"The government has decided to establish a special economic zone here for health improvement and recreation. Any city needs good hotels, especially Vladivostok, but here there are none. Under the plan, by 2012 Vladivostok will have a developed transport infrastructure, a modern airport, and several good hotels that will be able to accommodate a large number of tourists," Shuvalov said.
Mr Shuvalov added that tomorrow Komsomolsk-on-the-Amur will host a meeting of the Government Commission for the Development of Trans-Baikal Region and the Far East, which will discuss measures to implement the official strategy for the region's development. "The government has recently approved this strategy. It was discussed in every district in the region, and now we must map out specific measures to implement this strategy," Shuvalov said.
The commission will also discuss efforts to develop a competitive environment in the Far Eastern Federal District.
